NHS Health Education England

Client challenge

Health Education England (HEE) exists for one reason only: to support the delivery of excellent healthcare and health improvement to the patients and public of England by ensuring that the workforce of today and tomorrow has the right numbers, skills, values and behaviours, at the right time and in the right place. There are currently more than 160,000 students studying to be part of our future NHS workforce.

HEE identified the need to establish an efficient centralised Portfolio Management Tool to bring cohesion to the organisation’s portfolio of projects and programmes, and to ensure governance oversight across the entire HEE landscape, including the thirteen regions. This, in turn, would help HEE deliver its Business Plan.

How did we help?

Health Education England selected PM3 from Bestoutcome because of its ease of use, strong track-record in the NHS and flexiblity. Working closely with the central PfMO we helped them quickly configure PM3 to meet the organisation’s federated ways-of-working, and provided initial training which has now been contextualised and rolled-out to the regional teams.

Benefits to Health Education England

The PMO has established regular reporting and governance cycles which are underpinned by PM3. This helps ensure visibility and consistency of reporting across all the organisation’s initiatives, leading to increased confidence that the programmes will deliver the required business outcomes for HEE.
