London, UK, April 27th 2018 – 1 year on since West Herts NHS Trust implemented PM3West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust has hundreds of projects and programmes that need to be delivered including a multimillion Cost Improvement Programme (CIP). These projects and programmes represent an important and sizeable investment for the Trust and were being managed using Excel, MS Project and an incumbent PPM tool. The trust has now been using PM3 for a year and Bestoutcome’s Senior Consultant, Jack Watson, caught up with Rita Oye, Head of PMO at West Hertfordshire NHS Trust to check on the progress so far.
Rita Oye, Head of PMO, says:
“It’s been a year since we first implemented PM3 at West Herts. The biggest noticeable improvement has been in the successful delivery of the QIPP because we have the visibility to identify our bottlenecks which can be escalated to the board for any decisions that need to be made. We can easily report on project deliverables to provide insight for any CQC audits without having to spend time chasing people – this saves me multiple days per months where I can now put my focus elsewhere.
We also use PM3 to track and manage our CIPs – all CIP documentation is stored in PM3 (QIA & PID) for each CIP Scheme. This makes life so much easier as it was previously managed using Excel spreadsheets. This was overly complicated and didn’t work as effectively as PM3. I can instantly run a CIP report to show all the total savings to date and report this to our finance teams.
The flexibility in PM3 allows us to create different views and reports across our portfolios. We have also rolled out PM3 across our IT organisation, who use PM3 to plan, manage and report on over 80 projects. PM3 is now fully embedded within their processes and the feedback is that PM3 is a game changer through its easy to use interface and reporting tools.”
Jack Watson, of Bestoutcome says:
“It’s great to see how PM3 has helped West Herts mature and embed the PMO processes. This has enabled a consistent approach to Project and Portfolio management across the Trust and, by using PM3, they are able to accurately report on their CIP and any CQC action plans with the click of a button. This is typical across many of the Trusts & CCG’s that use PM3 – we have worked in conjunction with the NHS to upgrade our Benefits Management module in our latest cloud release to ensure CIP savings are linked to the project delivery milestones.”
West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust provides acute healthcare services to a core catchment population of approximately half a million people living in west Hertfordshire and the surrounding area.
